Of dry heat and perfect flames

Brownies baking
The BBQ that comes every summer
The way steam from soup lifts the taste
Into the air to tease and taunt you
For just one morsel
The abrasive smells of harsh spices
The wounding smells of death
As life continues to passionately bask
Here is life- basic, raw and honest with no chemicals
Death strips the appealing odor of leaves
Fresh or stagnant, sweet or bitter
That reminder of grandma’s lipstick
An earthy garden moistened by rain
It is all smell
In the soft slope of your neck
In the hallway of your high school
Or sex in a car
Smell remains an amazing bouquet
